About our cause
The Somerset International Festival of the Arts (SIFA) is an annual celebration of classical music and the arts which brings together world-class chamber musicians and performers to local rural communities in North Somerset. Our festival is a non-for-profit charitable organisation, and the launch festival will take place between the 6th-8th October 2023, with a series of events with leading international musicians, including concerts, workshops, and talks.
One of the key principles of our festival is that our audiences attend and participate in all our community events, to enable access to the arts and feel inspired by the concerts. We aim to bring people together, and provide a sense of civic pride from the artistic connections within their local community.
At the very heart of the festival lies our education programme to support and nurture music education through partnership programmes with schools and the local community. SIFA will be working with the award-winning education team ‘Preludes’ from The Bristol Ensemble for our local schools’ projects and our family workshop day. These projects will give many school children their first interactive musical experience. SIFA’s musical projects are an invaluable opportunity to learn about music, play a wide variety of musical instruments, make music together and listen to world-class musicians.
Our education projects will link to the national curriculum, ensuring cross-links to other subjects. We hope that the success of our projects would provide the local area with an inspiring musical education initiative that can grow and expand to more schools in future years.
We will also be providing a musical workshop to care homes in the local area, ensuring that those who cannot physically attend our festival can engage and enjoy a live concert in their own care home.
We believe this festival will have an enormously positive impact on the mental health and wellbeing of those involved, increasing social contact with others in their community, and creating an inspiring cultural legacy.
We need your help so that this exciting new venture can bring the very best of the performing arts to the local community.
Thank you for your support!
Yours sincerely,
Simon Kodurand
Artistic Director of SIFA
